Weathered and Neutral Coastal Nursery Design

One of my favorite rooms in our home is our guest bedroom.  If you’ve been around for a while you’ll remember that this room has been transformed a ton over the years and now is a neutral, tranquil space with my beloved gray shiplap wall as a focus.  As much as it pains me, we’ll be changing this room again because it’s going to become the nursery!  There’s a courtyard in front of our house and this room is behind it therefore we feel it’ll be a safer alternative than the office whose windows are outside the courtyard, so the guest room furniture will be moving to the office.

A year ago I never thought this room would exist, and up until about 18 weeks into this pregnancy I didn’t feel comfortable planning or even thinking about its design given how tumultuous things have been leading up to now.  But then it hit me and the ideas just started flowing and flowing.  The focus of the room will still be the gray shiplap wall (of course) and the colors in the room will stay very similar with a gray, cream, taupe, and weathered wood palette focusing on a multitude of textures.  Other than being my favorite “colors” to work with they’re also perfect for a gender neutral nursery.  I couldn’t wait to throw all the ideas in my head together so here’s my inspiration board for the space:

A calm, relaxing, and weathered neutral nursery design full of texture!*affiliate links included for your convenience and the crib has been sponsored by Wayfair.  Click here to see my full disclosure policy

I’ll be using the existing dresser as storage and a changing table but everything else in the space will be new.  I loved the vintage style of an iron crib and this one is a 4-in-1 convertible so it’ll last us for a looooong time!  I also want to make sure storage is at a maximum in here so along with the dresser I found a driftwood finish tall bookcase and big storage ottoman to stash things away in.  I’ll attempt my first barn door for the closet and am looking at some Ikea closet systems to make it easy to store all those little baby things (any advice here is much appreciated).  The rocker was a total splurge but the fact that it converts to a normal chair later on totally sold me, and I definitely wanted one in a super soft but durable fabric that had a wingback to rest my head on, lord knows there will be tons of time spent in it!   The rugs are full of texture (a faux sheepskin and wool/jute pebble rug) too.

Getting ready for a baby at the same time as the holiday shopping season I thought would be stressful, but actually it’s making me feel pretty great because we’ve scored some AWESOME deals on almost everything!  I’ve hit up Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals online and have gotten some great discounts on the pieces you see for the room as well as bigger ticket items like our stroller/carseat and baby monitor.  I really had to restrain myself from snagging other items off my nursery because of the great sale they were on :)
**you may be able to hit up some of the same sales right now or in the next few days too!!

Stay tuned for a bumpdate next week (26 weeks, eep!) and I’ll break down more of what I plan to do in this space as well.  If you’re interested in some of the items shown, you can find links to them below.  You can also see more ideas for the nursery at my Pinterest board here:

    1. I CANNOT wait to get the crib in here!! It’s the first thing I picked out and used it to base the whole room off of, I knew I wanted an iron one :)

    1. Thanks Kelly! You can find the full reveal of the nursery with details to everything I used HERE, but I got the rocker in Performance Everyday Velvet in “Silver Gray” ;)

    1. Thanks Amy! The walls all stayed the same color as they were for the guest bedroom; the shiplap wall is SW’s “Peppercorn” and the other walls are SW’s “Alpaca”. You can see the finished room HERE :)
