Bright and Relaxing Master Bedroom Update – {One Room Challenge – Week 4}

Eeesh, Week FOUR you guys!! How on earth is it already a week since my last post??  If you’re new here, I am taking part in Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge as a linking participant.  We’ve got 6 weeks to completely redesign and update one room, ack!  While I haven’t bitten off nearly as much as some of my fellow participants (think tiling, plumbing, drywall…all of it), I am doing everything I can to update our less-than-impressive master bedroom.  You can catch up on my whole shindig with Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3.  Here is my mood board for the room, country and weathered Fixer Upper meets coastal :)

While no, I still haven’t repainted the wainscoting white (slated for this weekend), I did manage to mark a few more items off my list: the rug, new sheets and updating the framed algae prints over our bed.  Ok, so I added the sheets to my list.  Please tell me I’m not alone in being so OCD that you add things to a list just so you can immediately cross them off?  It’s my favorite.

Anyway, I got our PB sheets in and they are complete heaven, seriously.  There’s just something about PB bedding, it’s all so soft and perfect and just screams luxurious master bedroom.  I can’t get enough of it, although that’s no secret if you’ve followed me for any time at all ;)

As for the rug, I remeasured and decided an 8’x10′ would be just a bit too big for our room.  Luckily, I caught a 6’x9′ Safavieh jute rug on hella sale and snatched it up this weekend (it’s still on sale this week!).  Hopefully it’ll be here next week and I’ll have it in time for the Week 5 update.  But, I’m still pretty worried about our bad cat with it.  I mean, cat pukes happen (um, new bumper sticker?) but cat pees are another story.  If that happens, the rug is outta there and into the guest bedroom.

If you follow me on Instagram, you caught a glimpse of the updates my mom and I made to the pressed algae prints I had over our bed.  They were long overdue for some oomph so we chalk painted the frames in ASCP French Linen and I made some mats out of burlap scrapbook paper to give them some texture and dimension.  Those simple changes blew me away and they look sooooo good now!  I can’t wait to see how their burlap mats play off the jute rug.  #ihearttexture

Also, the ottomans from World Market came in yesterday and ugh, the herringbone is much more noticeable than I expected and I’m not sure they’ll really work in here.  Why oh why do my dream ottomans have to be almost $300 for two?!? I just can’t do that, especially with all the other purchases for this room, so I will be returning these and likely staying with the leather bench we currently have, unless some other one jumps out at me soon somewhere.

The mirror drama continues, but I had an epiphany yesterday that I may move the clock over to sit on top of the dresser instead, and have a smaller square mirror where the clock is now.  It sure would be a heck of alot easier to decorate around that way, and square mirrors are in between rectangular and circle on the coolness scale in my opinion.  I’ve found a few contenders, but this one from PB is at the top of the list so far.  Unfortunately it’s backordered until late May so it wouldn’t be here in time for the reveal, but pending the discovery of any others just as good, I may still have to do it and just share it when it comes in.  If you have any great square mirror leads, send ’em my way!

So, here’s the Week 4 list:

update lighting to these wall sconces
decide on a paint color and paint walls  SW “Ice Cube”
new duvet cover and sheets
update algae print frames with chalk paint and burlap mats
– repaint wainscoting SW “Extra White”
add euro pillows (I REALLY want these) Using the PB pickstitch euros I have on the daybed until I can afford my dream ones
8×10′ jute rug under the bed 6’x9′, close enough
two X-bench ottomans to replace leather bench Meh
get an oversized clock
– new rectangular mirror over the dresser
new solid ivory/white curtains? Keeping the old ones
artwork on each side of the window? Nah
– new floor-standing fan and/or desktop fan
procure new decor for dresser and nightstands

Hopefully next week I’ll have some shiny new white wainscoting to tease you with as well as some rug action.  In the meantime, check out the ORC designers’ progress from yesterday and then see what the other linking participants have been up to HERE!

  1. Such a pretty room! I love herringbone, so I’d keep them, but that’s me. The bedding looks beautiful!

    1. Thank you Kristen! I do love me some herringbone but just not along side my more weathered, vintage-y decor in here :/ I wish I had somewhere else I could use them because they’re cute!

  2. Sounds like I’m going to need to get my hands on some PB sheets! LOVE the burlap paper (BRILLIANT!) matting in those frames too! Can’t wait to see how it all comes together!

    1. Do it, seriously. Their bedding is amazing. I use that burlap paper for the background on shadowboxes too, it’s so much easier to work with :)

  3. Okay… this room is just BEAUTIFUL!!! Those sheets make me want to curl up and take a nap. Great job on the frames. And I love, love, love that PB mirror! I’m almost thinking I should order one for the powder room (mirror shopping has been challenging for me). Amazing!

  4. Your mood board for this room is beautiful and those sheets and those pillows look so comfy. Can’t wait to see the final room!

  5. Wow Emily! This room is going to look amazing! I LOVE the bedding; I’ve been eyeing something similar for my own room! I can’t wait to see the reveal!

    1. Thank you Amy! It was on crazy sale at PB so I pulled the trigger. I was a little worried about doing so much pattern at first, since I usually don’t, but I love it!

  6. Say WHAT? Burlap scrapbook paper? That is awesome!

    Love the sheets to much too! Everything looks wonderful together!

    {big hugs}
